Have you ever wanted to meet author Jacquelyn Mitchard?
Well I have, and later this month there will be an opportunity for me and you. I just loved her book “The Rest of Us: Dispatches from the Mother Ship.”
The popular author, known for her suspenseful and moving stories, is the featured speaker at the second annual Breast Cancer Awareness luncheon, Friday, Oct. 26. The event is sponsored by the Support Connection, Inc. of Yorktown Heights and requires advance registration.
The luncheon commemorates National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And how appropriate that Mitchard, who speaks for women with her books, will be there. The luncheon will be from noon to 3 p.m. at Traveler’s Rest restaurant on Route 100 in Ossining.
Mitchard’s first novel, “The Deep End of the Ocean, was named by USA Today as one of the ten most influential books of the past 25 years. It was an early selection of Oprah Winfrey’s book club and it was made into a film starring Michelle Pfeiffer.
Her other books include “The Most Wanted, “A Theory of Relativity, “Twelve Times Blessed and “The Breakdown Lane.
After the luncheon, Mitchard will be available for book signing.
Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit Support Connection, Inc, a nonprofit organization that provides free and confidential support services to women, their families and friends affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Founded in 1996, Support Connection has had more than 8,000 participants in its programs.
Advance registration is required. The cost is $50 per person. Reservations can be made by calling Support Connection at 914-962-6402. For more information, visits www.supportconnection.org.
