Chardonnay with that book, please

November
5

We just got word of a rare gathering that book lovers in the Hudson Valley might really soak up.

Millbrook Vineyards & Winery is hosting a book signing with 25 Hudson Valley authors and inviting the public to well, come north and sip and schmooze with authors from noon to 5 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 10.

Among those on the author list:
Scott Ian Barry, “Wolf Empire
David and Nikki Goldbeck “Healthy Highways, Whole Foods Cuisine
Richard Segalman, “Reflections on Light
Patricia Edwards Clyne, “Hudson Valley Tales & Trail.
Michele Slung, “A Treasury of Christmas Stories
Peter Rose, “Foods of the Hudson

Samples of Millbrook wines will be available. Its Keeper’s Market with gourmet treats will be open with spreads and dips to sample and purchase, too. The winery opened in 1988 and produces 8,000 to 10,000 cases a year specializing in its Chardonnay.

Now what book goes with Pinot Noir or a Chenin Blanc?

Joanne Michaels, an author, publisher, publicist, book distributor and a former book editor, helped conceive of this event because she is a total booklover and Millbrook is one of her favorite Hudson Valley attractions, she said. The idea, she explains, came about when she was interviewing David Bova, the manager of the winery, for an article she wrote for Wine Enthusiast magazine. She is the author of “Let’s Take the Kids, “The Hudson Valley & Catskill Mountains: An Explorer’s Guide and other books an no doubt will be there as well.

For more information, call the winery at 845-677-8383, ext. 17.

About the author
Barbara NackmanA municipal reporter for The Journal News since 1997, Barbara Livingston Nackman has covered local governments, events and breaking news from many communities. She began her journalism career by writing for bookselling and library publications. As a suburban mother, she made sure her two sons, now 23 and 21, had bookshelves and reading chairs in their rooms and library cards way before they had driver's licenses. Her editors have now found an outlet for all those book-related stories she pitches and her husband hopes she gains an interest in reading historical non-fiction.

Well, maybe if it's about Benjamin Franklin and the Free Library of Philadelphia. READ MORE
