This is clearly the season to catch a good, fun book and pass along some suggestions. So here is a fiction title I saw mentioned in a recent e-mail from the White Plains Public Library. It is about a woman in her 60s (gasp) who takes a chance and finds new happiness in her life. The library plans to discuss it in a book group next month so I think there is ample to take it in and then spill out your thoughts.
“The Beach House” (Viking, June 2008) by Jane Green, a New York Times bestselling author, and nearby Connecticut resident.
“Known in Nantucket as an eccentric woman, Nan discovers the money that she thought would last forever is dwindling and she could lose her beloved beach house. Placing an ad renting out the rooms fills the house with noise, laughter, tears and some surprises,” according to the library’s newsletter.
Green has a neat Web site which includes interviews and highlights her previous books along with photos of her with Candace Bushnell and Bedford’s Martha Stewart.
The White Plains library’s s adult book group Chicklit & Chocolate Book Discussion will talk about this book at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 so there is time to get on board.
The White Plains library is at 100 Martine Ave.; 914-422-1480.
