With summer coming to a close, I was wondering what some of the teachers in lower Hudson Valley read during their summer breaks.
The new principal of Putnam Valley High School clearly had his sights on current events and how history shapes the future.

Jonathan M. Bryant, who meets his students Wednesday, spoke this week for an upcoming profile on him that should be running this weekend. He recommended three titles andÂÂ I am passing those along herewith.
“Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” by Doris Kearns Goodwin (2005, 2006 Simon & Schuster) about President Lincoln’s cabinet choices. He said it “really gives you an understanding of leadership and the use of people — and how to get the best out of everyone around you, even those who see things very differently.”
It should be noted that Barak Obama referred to the book as well and an interesting discussion can be found in an ABC-News blog post by Jake Tapper.
His second recommendation was “The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the 21st Century” (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2005) by Thomas Friedman.
And then, he said he read a history of the building the Putnam Valley Elementary School and a slew of yearbooks from the high school to get to know the district.
